Phaesun builds solar systems in Africa

German Phaesun and Ikratos Africa, based in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, are constructing 10 solar power plants in the Koudougou region, to be finished at the end of March 2010.

The solar modules will produce electricity for telecommunications plants for Telecel Faso, which has covered 75 % of the network with diesel-powered telecommunications plants so far.

Each of the 9.18 kW solar systems consists of 108 monocrystalline solar modules from ET Solar, batteries from Hoppecke and charge controllers, which were developed especially for telecommunication systems and are that suitable for warm regions.

The first of the solar systems one went on line on 16 February.

During the five-day installation, Phaesun trained around 30 engineers, technicians and installers from Telecel Faso and Ikratos Africa on location.

Telecel Faso plans to increase the network coverage to 100% as well as to replace all of the previously installed diesel generators with solar plants.
