At present, the Port of Milford Haven’s Liddeston Ridge site is running at 25 per cent capacity whilst Western Power complete upgrades to the lines connecting it to the national grid. At full strength, the 20,000 panel solar park will generate up to 5mWh of electricity -- enough to power a thousand homes.

According to Tim James, the Port of Milford Haven’s Renewable Energy manage, the completion of these works is expected next week -- at which time the Port’s electrical team will increase output to full power. "It has been a lot of hard work to get us to this point," James recalled. "Over two years has been spent taking the project from an idea to fruition. It’s renewable energy at its purest -- great for the environment and a long-term revenue stream for the Port as well."

The profits generated from the project will be reinvested back into the Port’s activities as a Trust Port after covering installation costs. However, the construction has been good news for local businesses, too, with more than £0.5m spent locally on trades and materials.
