US wind turbine tower manufacturers join US-China trade dispute

US wind turbine tower manufacturers have joined the widening renewable energy trade dispute with China.

By Kari Williamson

The Wind Tower Trade Coalition has asked the Department of Commerce and the International Trade Commission to investigate Chinese and Vietnamese dumping of wind turbine towers in the US below market prices, according to The Oregonian.

The coalition has requested countervailing duties equal to the difference between imported wind turbine towers and the normal value in the exporting country, which equates to 64.37% for Chinese wind turbine towers and 59.11% for Vietnamese towers.

The reason why Vietnamese exports are included, is that many Chinese manufacturers have operations in Vietnam whilst benefiting from Chinese subsidies.

The renewable energy trade dispute between US and Chinese manufacturers began this autumn when SolarWorld and 6 other US solar manufacturers accused Chinese companies of dumping products in the US market.
