China hits back at solar dumping accusation

China hits back at the accusations brought forward by some US solar manufacturers that Chinese manufacturers are selling illegally subsidised solar products in the US.

By Kari Williamson

In October SolarWorld Industries America Inc, along with six other solar manufacturers, filed cases with the US Department of Commerce and International Trade Commission accusing Chinese solar cell and module manufacturers of illegal dumping in the US market.

The Chinese Ministry of Commerce has now issued a statement warning US against protectionist measures.

“If the US Government files case, adopts duties and sends an inappropriate protectionist signal, it would cast a shadow over world economic recovery,” an official says according to Reuters.

“The Chinese Government hopes the United States will scrupulously abide by its promise to oppose trade protectionism, avoid adopting protectionist measures on Chinese solar cell products, jointly protect a free, open and free international trade environment, and adopt more rational means of handling trade frictions.”

The statement adds that China is meeting World Trade Organisation (WTO) rules and that the US should take care not to criticise China when the US also has policies favouring US manufacturers.

In the first instance why should US Import Solar equipment in bulk unless it is of good quality? In these days of Global business every country can sell its products in any other country(subject to impost rules). On the part of China, the Solar and other renewable Energy Products manufacturers should see that their products meet the competition of other advanced countries in quality if it is not there.
