ACCIONA and Navantia report that they will work together in distinct areas of development, including:

• the development of fixed and floating foundations for the installation of wind turbines;
• electrical substations;
• meteorological towers; vessels;
• platforms for installing foundations and/or wind turbines as well as for maintaining and disassembling facilities.

Joint efforts will also include logistics surveys and capacity analyses of Spanish ports and Navantia's own facilities to serve the offshore wind industry.

The two companies have stressed the need to establish efficient regulatory procedures in Spain to enable the growth of offshore wind energy, as well as support technological achievements in the development of onshore wind power generation.

Spain is already one of the world leaders in onshore wind generation with over 20 GW installed as of the end of 2010 (source - EWEA). Acciona and Navantia want to use the expertise developed through its history of onshore development, and leverage it to launch an offshore industry to rival the plans of offshore wind leaders like the UK and Germany.
