Smarter Grid Solutions technology to Low Carbon London project

Smarter Grid Solutions’ grid management technologies will be used as part of the Low Carbon London project with UK Power Networks.

The Low Carbon London project is supported by £24.3 million from the UK Ofgem’s Low Carbon Netowrk Fund.

Smarter Grid Solutions’ Smart Grid platform for advanced grid control aims to help overcome challenges associated with London’s congested electricity distribution networks.

Over the next 18 months the company will install five of its SGcore products, which will manage generation (and potentially electric vehicle charging) in London.

“SGcore is a Smart Grid platform for deploying Applications to manage different parts of the electrical grid. We have developed these Applications to enable more renewable generators and other low-carbon technologies, such as energy storage and electric vehicles, to connect within the constraints of existing electricity networks. SGcore provides a new way of managing the grid in real-time that can be used to overcome some of the barriers facing low carbon technology deployment,” says Technical Director Dr Bob Currie.

UK Power Network’s Low Carbon London project will run until mid 2014, and is part of a series of four Smart Grid initiatives in the UK recently announced by Ofgem, which are aimed at accelerating the deployment of Smart Grid technology and facilitating industry learning.
