Gehrlicher Solar has sold its solar system located on the rooftop of an Audi site in Neckarsulm in Southern Germany. The solar power plant, which has a peak performance of 1.9 MW, the was sold for €4.65 million to fund initiator PT Erneuerbare Energien.
Audi made approximately 27,000 m2 of rooftop area available for the solar power plant. 10,700 solar modules manufactured by Sunowe now produce about 1.8 GWh of direct current per year. These are transformed by 62 Kaco inverters into alternating current which can be fed into the pubic grid.
The substructure is Gehrtec FLAT, which was specially designed by Gehrlicher Solar for use on flat roofs. The solar system was connected to the grid in September 2010.
Steffen Licht, Head of the Rooftop Business Unit at Gehrlicher Solar, says: “These type of projects show the large, yet unexplored, potential rooftop systems offer in Germany. In the meantime, we can also reach the megawatt range regularly.”
