Solar water heating project in Scotland

The ScottishPower Energy People Trust has donated £90,000 to Lister Housing Co-operative in Scotland for the installation of solar water heating.

The Lister Housing Co-operative provides affordable housing for a range of individuals on low incomes and suffering from fuel poverty.

Work on the solar hot water project, which installed solar water heating to 49 households, started in February 2009 and is now fully complete.

Alistair Cant, Director of Lister Housing Cooperative, says: “Already we have seen a number of tenants achieving over 1 MWh output from their solar panels. One tenant has been in to see us with a gas bill showing a reduction of 51% compared to the same period in the previous year. As she had not had her heating on much if at all in that period, she attributes the difference to the solar panels.”
