Statkraft and Siemens open solar PV plant in Italy

The 3.3 MW Casale solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant in Italy has been opened by Siemens Energy and Norwegian utility Statkraft.

The Casale solar park is expected to produce 4.5 GWh annually.

Agreement for further 40 MW of solar

Statkfraft and Siemens Energy have also entered a framework agreement to build 40 MW of solar power capacity in Italy in 2010. Construction of the first solar plant is expected to start this spring.

Siemens Energy will be responsible for engineering, project management, turnkey construction of the solar PV plants, and operation and maintenance for the first five years.

“Siemens Energy is a highly competent partner, securing our ability to build several solar parks in parallel and reach the target of commissioning new solar parks before the end of 2010. The time schedule is of great importance, due to the uncertainty regarding future support schemes for solar power,” says Olav Hetland, Senior Vice President Solar Power at Statkraft.

Statkraft’s goal is to develop 75 MW of solar power generating capacity by 2012. The geographical focus is Italy, Spain and France.
