Iberdrola to build 102.85 MW windfarm in Mexico

The construction contract for the 102.85 MW La Venta III windfarm in Mexico has bee awarded to Iberdrola Renovables by the Mexican Federal Electricity Commission (CFE).

Under the terms of the contract Iberdrola Renovables will supply energy to the Mexican state owned CFE, which generates, transmits, distributes and sells electricity to 80 million Mexicans.

The La Venta III windfarm is situated in the municipality of Santo Domingo Ingenio in Oaxaca State. Construction will start in 2009 and the facility is slated to come on stream in November 2010.

The windfarm will use 21 G52 Gamesa wind turbines, each measuring 44 m in height and with an output of 850 kW.

The project is the first in a series of CFE initiatives to install 500 MW of wind capacity in the state over the coming years.

In January the Iberdrola Renovables inaugurated the 80 MW La Ventosa facility in Oaxaca, which according to Iberdrola Reonvables, is the second windfarm built in Mexico and the first developed entirely with private capital.
