Hydrogenics commissions eleventh fuel cell Midibus for European market

Canadian-based Hydrogenics has delivered another fuel cell powered Midibus, in this case for operation at a hospital complex in Hamburg, Germany.

This vehicle, the eleventh such Midibus in operation that is powered by Hydrogenics fuel cell units, is owned by Klinik Logistic Eppendorf GmbH, a division of University Klinik Eppendorf. The fuel cell Midibus is based on the electric bus platform from Tecnobus SpA in Italy.

The purchase was coordinated through HySolutions GmbH, a company that promotes the use of fuel cells and hydrogen, and sponsored by the City-State of Hamburg.

The project is also being supported by the federal German government, through the National Innovation Program for Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology (NIP), which is coordinated by NOW GmbH. The German Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Development is also providing support.

‘The Hydrogenics Midibus continues to gain traction across the continent, as local governments come to view it as an appropriate solution for urban, emission-sensitive environments,’ comments Daryl Wilson, President and CEO of Hydrogenics.

‘With eleven such buses now delivered and in use, Hydrogenics has validated its unique fuel cell applications and energy-efficient mobility design with a high degree of reliability, paving the way for future awards,’ continues Wilson. ‘Europe clearly plays a large role in clean transportation solutions, and we are well positioned for further growth there.’

Hydrogenics Corporation is a globally recognized developer and manufacturer of hydrogen generation and polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) fuel cell products and services, serving the growing industrial and clean energy markets.
