REpower USA supplies 9 of its 2 MW wind turbines for Michigan wind farm

REpower USA Corp, a subsidiary of Germany’s wind turbine manufacturer, REpower Systems AG will supply 9 of its 2 MW MM92 wind turbines with a total output of 18.45 MW to the US project developer Heritage Sustainable Energy LLC.

The wind turbines will be used at the Stoney Corners II wind farm near the city of McBain, Michigan, USA. The wind turbines are expected to be installed by the third quarter of 2010, REpower says.

The contract also provides an option for delivery of another 10 REpower MM92 wind turbines by September of 2010.

The Stoney Corners II wind turbines will have a hub height of 100 m, which makes the wind farm one of the first installations of a 2 MW-class turbine with a 100 meter hub height in the United States.

Marty Lagina, CEO of Heritage Sustainable Energy, says: “Between 2010 and 2012, Heritage is planning to construct further projects in Michigan with the goal of building 400-500 MW in the next few years.”

Stoney Corners II wind farm is the second contract this year between REpower USA Corp. and Heritage Sustainable Energy at the Stoney Corners site. The first contract was for 7 REpower MM92 wind turbines for the Stoney Corners I project, each with an output of 2 MW and a hub height of 80 m. These wind turbines are currently under construction, and the wind farm is expected to be completed by the end of November 2009.
