E.ON opens 780 MW wind farm in the USA

E.ON has opened what it calls the “world’s largest wind farm” in the USA. The wind farm in Roscoe, Texas, USA, consists of 627 wind turbines with an installed capacity of approximately 780 MW.

The wind farm consists of four sections and covers an area of 400 km², twice the size of a city like Düsseldorf, in Germany.

The wind turbines were manufactured by Mitsubishi, General Electric and Siemens.

Frank Mastiaux, CEO of E.ON Climate & Renewables, says: “With large-scale projects like Roscoe we are helping renewables to achieve a faster breakthrough in economic and technological terms. For this purpose we will invest €8 billion worldwide up to 2011. Our aim is to reach a capacity of 10,000 MW in 2015. North America is one of the most attractive markets for renewables worldwide, especially for onshore wind plants.”
