SSE consent for second Dutch offshore windfarm

Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE), through its renewables development division, Airtricity, has obtained consent for construction of the Breeveertieen II offshore windfarm in the Dutch sector of the North Sea.

Breeveertien II will consist of up to 97 wind turbines with a total potential energy capacity of around 350 MW. It is located in the North Sea, 60 km off the coast of Ijmuiden, The Netherlands.

According to SSE, the focus will now be on the final phase of the development process of the windfarm, securing financial support from the Dutch Government through its renewables support mechanism (SDE).

SSE was recently granted exclusive rights by The Crown Estate to develop offshore windfarms at four locations in Scottish territorial waters, and in January, SSE and Aitricity obtained consent for the West Rijn offshore windfarm.
