SMA announces deal to buy Dutch firm’s micro-inverter technology

SMA has announced the acquisition of micro-inverter technology from Dutch firm OKE.

In an effort to increase its technological edge in the solar photovoltaic (PV) market, SMA Solar Technology has acquired OKE’s micro-inverter platform for an unrevealed price.

This will make SMA the "only manufacturer in the world with a product portfolio including all existing inverter technologies for operating photovoltaic systems", according to the company.

OKE’s pioneering micro-inverter technology converts direct current (DC) from individual solar panels into alternating current (AC) for supply to the grid. It is particularly suited for use in small PV systems of 1kWp or less, and can reportedly yield a higher amount of energy than some other types of module inverters in larger systems.

SMA is a leader in the field of photovoltaic inverters, and the company plans to develop its own range of micro-inverters in future years.
