Alstom to supply hydropower turbines for Ivory Coast project

250 MW installation entails three Alstom 90 MW Francis turbine-generator sets, one 5 MW Bulb turbine-generator set and related equipment.

The wind turbine supply contract -- awarded by China’s Sinohydro Corporation Limited -- covers the equipment’s design, manufacturing, supervision to the installation, commissioning, testing as well as site services. The equipment will be manufactured at Alstom’s hydro industrial site in China’s Tianjin city.

The Soubre Project, located on the Naoua falls over Sassandra River, is the largest hydropower project in Cote d'lvoire at present with a capacity of 270 MW, according to Alstom. When completed, the power plant will have an average annual output of 1100 GWh.

The project marks the second cooperation between Alstom Hydro China and Sinohydro, following the Bui project in Ghana. (That installation entailed 3 x 133 MW turbine generator units.) Other recent projects include Bujagali's 250 MW hydropower plant in Uganda and the Grand Renaissance's 3000 MW project.
