Royal Mail, Cenex pioneer fuel cell postal vans for UK

The UK’s national postal service, the Royal Mail, has embarked on a project to pioneer the development of fuel cell postal vans.

Royal Mail is working with Cenex, the UK’s center of excellence for low carbon and fuel cell technologies; PostEurop, the association of European public postal operators; and FuelCellEurope, the European association of fuel cell developers, to develop a universal design specification for postal vans powered by a hydrogen fuel cell.

Once a draft specification has been developed, the design brief will be shared with all the other European postal operators for their input. It will then be presented to major vehicle manufacturers around the world for consideration, and to stimulate mainstream construction at relatively affordable prices.
