Yingli brings solar power to Brazil’s most prestigious football stadium

A partnership between Chinese company Yingli Green Energy, EDF Consultoria and the State of Rio de Janeiro is bringing solar power to Brazil’s most prestigious sports stadium, Estado do Maracana, which will host the 2014 World Cup.

The stadium was first opened in 1950 and is owned by the state government. It seats 82,238 spectators. The new solar project, led by Light Esco, will see over 1,500 YGE 245 Series modules installed on a metal ring that will run around the top of the stadium.

Yingli Green Energy is one of the world’s largest vertically integrated solar PV manufacturers. It maintains a production capacity of 1,700 MW per year with an additional 750 MW of projects currently under construction. It distributes its products to a wide variety of markets including Germany, Spain, Italy, Greece, France, South Korea, China and the United States. It’s headquarters are in Baoding, China and it has more than 20 subsidiaries worldwide.
