Oerlikon reduces thin-film module cost by 5%

Oerlikon says it will be able to reduce the production cost of its Micromorph thin-film silicon solar photovoltaic (PV) modules by 5% from the end of 2012.

By Kari Williamson

The cost reduction comes as Oerlikon Solar announces agreements with gas suppliers Air Liquide and Linde reducing the solar company's total cost of all gases and precursors by 20%.

“Thinks to the strong support from leading gas suppliers, we are now able to further reinforce the competitiveness of our Micromorph technology for current and future market conditions,” says Helmut Frankenberger, CEO of Oerlikon Solar.
