Soitec gets PPA approval for 155 MW of solar in California

Soitec Solar Development LLC has received the approval of five of its solar power purchase agreements (PPA) with San Diego Gas and Electric (SDG&E) from the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC).

By Kari Williamson

The five projects, totalling 155 MW of solar energy, are situated in San Diego County and will consist of Soitec’s Concentrix solar concentrating PV (CPV) technology.

The CPUC also approved an option agreement for the right, but not the obligation, for SDG&E to purchase additional capacity from Soitec Solar Development.

The solar CPV modules will be manufactured in a new Soitec factory planned for the San Diego area.

At full capacity, the San Diego solar CPV manufacturing facility could generate up to 450 direct jobs and over 1000 indirect jobs within San Diego County.
