NRG intros ultrasonic wind sensors

NRG Systems is introducing a new line of ultrasonic wind sensors that measure wind speed and direction using sound waves.

By Kari Williamson

The NRG Systems IceFree Ultrasonic Wind Sensor is designed for turbine control applications, and carries a 240 W heater in a rugged aluminium body for all weather conditions.

Two additional models are polycarbonate – suitable for turbine control in moderate climates or wind resource assessment.

“We are pleased to offer a comprehensive line of ultrasonic sensors,” says Laura Goodfellow, Technical Sales Account Manager for NRG Systems. “They provide real-time, accurate data, and have no moving parts for minimal maintenance. By pairing ultrasonic and mechanical sensors for turbine control, wind farm operators can ensure redundancy and benefit from both technologies.”
