DuPont Apollo and Thailand's Loxley Plc have completed an 8.7 MW ground-mounted solar photovoltaic (PV) thin-film farm in the Prachin Buri Province of Thailand.

By Kari Williamson

The thin-film solar installation covers an area of approximately 344,000 m2 and consists of DunPont Apollo thin-film solar modules. It is expected to be grid connected by the end of 2011 and have an annual production capacity of 12 GWh.

The electricity will be fed to the grid through the Provincial Electricity Authority of Thailand (PEA) under Thailand's Very Small Power Producer (VSPP) tariff scheme.

The L Solar 1 project includes an education centre at the solar farm which is open to external visitors interested in learning about solar PV .

Thailand has the goal of fulfilling 20% of its total energy consumption needs with renewable sources by 2022.
