Contracts finalised for 288 MW Butendiek offshore wind farm

wpd group has finalised the contracts for all four major works of the 80 turbine, €1.2 billion offshore wind farm in the German North Sea.

By Kari Williamson

The contracts include delivery of 80, 3.6 MW offshore wind turbines from Siemens, foundations from Dutch Ballast Nedam, the substation platform from Belgian Fabricom GDF Suez JV, and the inter-array cabling by Visser Smit Marine Contractor.

“Last fall, we took over the Butendiek project, a venerable project, which at that time was regrettably stranded. After a new start through wpd, it is now one of the most interesting offshore projects in Germany. The low-risk profile of the project is supplemented by a set of agreements with especially seasoned and successful companies like Siemens and Ballast Nedam, with whom wpd has already built another offshore wind farm,” says Achim Berge, Managing Director of wpd offshore GmbH.

“We are already looking forward to working on our next goal – financial close,” adds Martin Lehnhoff, Managing Director of wpd offshore solutions GmbH, who with his team was responsible for the implementation of the project.
