SOLON cuts 60 solar PV jobs in Tucson, Arizona

SOLON is cutting 60 jobs at its solar photovoltaic (PV) module manufacturing facility in Tucson, Arizona, as part of its new US operations strategy.

By Kari Williamson

The solar PV module manufacturing in Tucson will be phased out by the end of October as the company focuses on its core business as a vertically integrated solar PV system solutions provider.

“We regret the near-term impact of this business decision on our employees in the Tucson community, but as a company SOLON is adapting to a rapidly changing solar market,” says Dan Alcombright, SOLON's President and CEO for North America.

“Our mission will continue to be to provide superior solar solutions. We will continue to aggressively expand in Tucson and our other US offices to support our efforts on commercial and large-scale project development, supply chain excellence, and new product development.”

He adds: “This change in operations strategy will enable us to better serve the North American market, and we will be introducing innovative new products before the end of 2011.”
