Two 50 MW solar thermal plants are planned in Merida, and two in Usagre, and the project represents a total investment of €1 billion.
The construction is scheduled to start in 2013 with completion slated for 2019, depending upon obtaining environmental permits from the Extremadura Regional Government, as well as Spain's Ministry of Industry admitting the plants in the relevant registers.
The solar thermal project will consist of 4650 heliostats that each plant will boast in a circular area of 1825 m in diameter, as well as the 190 m tower. The plan is to include molten salt heat storage to manage output.
