Chinese direct drive offshore wind turbines with Converteam technology

China’s Envision Energy will use Converteam’s direct drive permanent magnet generator (DD-PMG) and MV3000 full power converter in its 3.6 MW offshore wind turbine, GC-1.

Initially, Envision will construct two offshore wind turbines expected to be commissioned in Denmark in 2012 for testing and proving.

In a separate deal, Converteam will also deliver 350 modular 1.5 MW ProWind power converters for wind turbine production in China. The wind turbine converters will be manufactured at Converteam’s facility in Shanghai, and are designed for doubly-fed induction generators.

Anders Rebsdorf, Director Global Innovation Centre of Envision DK, says: “The GC-1 offshore wind turbine will be a key add-on to our wind turbine offering, which will maximise the economic and environmental potential of wind energy.

“By selecting Converteam for the GC-1 we are cementing a cooperative relationship, built up since we entered the wind market in 2007, of incorporating Converteam power converters in our turbines.”
