Intel aids MiaSolé with CIGS solar thin-film manufacturing

Intel and MiaSolé have entered a partnership where Intel will aid MiaSolé with its production of copper indium gallium selenide (CIGS) thin-film solar photovoltaics (PV).

Intel’s Technical Manufacturing Services will provide manufacturing services and systems, strategic consulting, operational knowledge and training as MiaSolé ramps up its manufacturing facilities in 2011 and 2012.

MiaSolé aims to have a capacity of 150 MWp by the end of 2011.

“The engagement is part of Intel’s broader strategy to partner promising high tech innovation with Intel’s world class manufacturing and Copy Exactly! methodology. This will enable companies like MiaSolé to scale to high volume manufacturing cheaper, faster, and better,” says Brian Krzanich, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Intel’s Manufacturing and Supply Chain.

MiaSolé’s CEO, Dr Joseph Laia, adds: “We are thrilled to learn from Intel’s manufacturing expertice. The best technology manufacturer on the planet is now teaching us what it means to be world-class. This contribution will strengthen our goals to achieve manufacturing scale of our California factory this year.”
