Suzlon launches low to moderate wind site turbine suite

Suzlon is launching a suite of 2 MW wind turbines for moderate to low wind regimes.

By Renewable Energy Focus staff

The S9X series will have rotor diameters of 95 m (S95) and 97 m (S97) with tower heights of 90-100 m. Suzlon says the wind turbines feature improved design across components and have better grid compatibility.

The wind turbines have doubly fed induction generator, and new pitch and yaw systems.

Serial production for the S95 is scheduled for the second quarter of the financial year 2011-1012, and serial production for the S97 wind turbine is expected in Q4.

Tulsi R. Tanti, Founder, Chairman and Managing Director of Suzlon Group, says: “The wind industry is rapidly evolving; the centre of gravity has shifted to emerging markets which are reshaping the sector. This shift is also dictating the direction of technology development as more moderate and low wind sites become available in these new markets. The S9X suite of turbines has been developed to take advantage of these emerging opportunities.”

He adds: “This suite of products is an important addition to our portfolio, solutions customised to our customers’ exact needs. We are confident the S9X suite extends our competitive edge in emerging high-growth markets like India, China and Brazil and other selected matured markets.”
