RWE Innogy has acquired two new wind farms in Poland, more than doubling its portfolio in the country to 108 MW.

The 32 MW Piecki wind farm in North-east Poland was developed and built by Spanish wind turbine manufacturer Gamesa. It was sold to RWE Innogy and energy utility company HSE Regenerativ, which owns a minority share.

The Piecki site is equipped with 16 Gamesa G90 2 MW turbines.

Gamesa has a total wind farm portfolio of 706 MW at varying stages of development in Poland, with a total project pipeline exceeding 1.7 GW in Eastern Europe (Poland, Romania and Bulgaria).

RWE Innogy has also acquired the Tychowo wind farm in Western Pomerania in Poland. The wind farm has an installed capacity of about 35 MW and consists of 15 2.3 MW Siemens turbines (SWT-2.3-93).

Paul Coffey, Chief Operating Officer at RWE Innogy, says: "Poland is a particularly attractive market for us when it comes to operating onshore wind power plants. This is because of the remarkable wind resources, the large growth potential and the cooperation opportunities with our sister company RWE Polska. This is why we intend to go ahead with the development of additional Polish wind farms in the next few years.”
