Doosan buys US$10m of AMSC wind turbine electrical control systems

South Korea’s Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction Co Ltd is buying over US$10 million worth of wind turbine electrical control systems from American Superconductor (AMSC).

The systems will be used in Doosan’s onshore and offshore 3 MW fully conversion turbines. The electrical control systems will be shipped to Doosan between the middle of 2011 and the middle of 2012.

Greg Yurek, Founder and CEO of AMSC says: “With the offshore wind market in Asia now entering a phase of rapid growth, we expect multi-megawatt wind energy systems such as Doosan’s WinDS3000 will be in increasingly high demand.”

South Korea announced a US$10.5 billion project to develop 2.5 GW of offshore wind power in November 2010.
