Piracy in the European wind business

Svendborg Brakes A/S, a supplier of braking systems for wind turbines, has won a lawsuit against a competitor over copyright infringement of Svendborg’s brakes.

Svendborg Brakes said its unnamed competitor had copied the design of four of its wind turbine brakes and used copyright-protected technical drawings in a catalogue.

"Svendborg Brakes has made substantial investments in the development of its products in the past" says Chief Commercial Officer, Claus Sejersen of the Svendborg Brakes Wind Division. "We view the judgement as a confirmation of our intellectual property rights and are pleased that the court ruled in our favour."

Svendborg Brakes is part of the LM Wind Power Group.
