Prysmian, a provider of turnkey high voltage systems, will start installing the 132 kV underground cables for the wind farm in September 2010, and is expected to be finished in around 20 months.

Prysmian’s onshore cable will connect to the offshore cable network at the beach landing point in Pensarn, and will be routed underground to a new electricity substation in St Asaph.

Construction of the €2billion Gwynt y Môr offshore wind project began in November 2009 when work to prepare land at St Asaph for the construction of a new 132/400 kV substation was carried out by North Wales civil engineering company Jones Bros.

At 576 MW, Gwynt y Môr offshore wind farm will be one of the largest offshore wind farms currently under construction in Wales.

The project is a shared investment between partners RWE Innogy, Stadtwerke Munchen and Siemens.
