ABB supports Chinese high voltage wind substation

ABB will design, supply and install all 6 main transformers for the 500 kV Tongyu substation under construction to support wind energy in the Jilin province of north-eastern China.

The substation is designed to integrate 2.3 GW of electricity into the grid.

“Renewable energy, especially wind power, is an important element of China’s focus on clean energy development,” says Tarak Mehta, Global Head of ABB’s Transformers Business.

”The transformers used in this project will play a key role in integrating wind energy into the grid and ensure the efficient transmission of electricity to millions.”

The transformers are based on ABB’s TrafoStar technology and will be supplied from ABB’s transformer manufacturing unit in Chongqing.
