Hyundai Heavy Industries to build wind turbine plant

Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Gunsan City, Jeollabuk-do, Korea, to build a wind turbine manufacturing plant.

The KRW105.7 billion factory will be completed by September 2009 and will be capable of producing 1.65 MW wind turbines.

The annual production capacity of the factory is set to 600 MW. HHI plans to expand the capacity to 800 MW by 2013.

HHI produced its first generator for wind turbines in 1988 and has exported in-house developed transformers and converters for wind power plants to USA, China and Europe.
