Silfab sets up 120 MW solar PV module manufacturing in Canada

Silfab SpA is expecting to complete a 120 MW highly automated solar photovoltaic (PV) module production site in Ontario, Canada, by the end of 2011.

The first 60 MW will be completed by the second quarter of 2011 whereas the remaining 60 MW of the solar PV manufacturing plant will be finalised by the end of next year.

The new Ontario solar PV subsidiary will be controlled by Silfab International BV (Netherlands), the international holding in charge of all international operations of Silfab SpA.

The solar PV plant will manufacture monocrystalline and polycrystalline silicon solar PV cells with a power up to 300 Wp, suited for both rooftop and ground-mounted applications.

Although the facility will primarily target the Ontario market, the Silfab solar PV modules will also be distributed across the USA, through the joint-venture formed by Silfab earlier this year with REgeneration Finance LLC, based in New York.

The installation of the first production line is scheduled by the end of the summer whereas manufacturing operations will start between the end of 2010 and early 2011.
