Three NY windfarms come online

Three windfarms totalling 328 MW have come online in New York, USA, with the aid of Careba Mott MacDonald and Noble Environmental Power LLC.

New York’s Altona, Chateaugay and Wethersfield wind parks will feed the upstate New York power grid. The projects produce 97.5 MW, 106.5 MW, and 124 MW of electricity, respectively.

All three of the wind parks use the General Electric 1.5SLE wind turbine, rated at 1.5 MW. The Altona wind park comprises 65 turbines and 21.1 miles of collector lines and Chateaugay holds 71 turbines and 33 miles of collector lines. Wethersfield is the largest wind park with 84 turbines and 60 miles of collector system.

Noble Environmental Power LLC will sell the wind power generated to New York’s power market. It will also sell renewable energy credits to green energy marketers including the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority.

Careba Mott MacDonald’s role encompassed design, electrical and structural engineering of all interconnecting substations, transmission lines and collector systems.
