French battery manufacturer Saft has been awarded a contract by electrical construction company Tri-Technic in the US, for the delivery of two Intensium® Max 20M battery containers to power the grid energy storage system at Fort Hunter Liggett in California.

In the UK, Viridor Waste Management and Highview Power Storage been awarded more than £8 million (US$13.4 million) to jointly develop an energy storage technology that stores air in liquid form. The contract was announced as the UK’s Low Carbon Innovation Coordination Group published a Strategic Framework on Coordinating Low Carbon Technology Innovation Support.

In the UK, ITM Power reports that planning permission has been granted in the Isle of Wight for all five hydrogen refuelling sites for which planning applications were submitted. ITM has chosen two of these sites to take forward for installation of hydrogen refuellers, ready for operation in November.
